Life is so busy! We rush through it all so we are able to check things off of our lists and “feel” accomplished. In all this busy we are losing site of the things that are really important; true joy, God’s peace, and being excited about Jesus. We talk about self-care because we are running on empty most days. I do think that self-care and time alone are important, even Jesus went off to be alone, with God, but why are we needing this so badly now?
I think as Christians we want to be excited about Jesus, we want to have joy and peace, but we walk away from our Bibles and devotionals and run into our day of endless cleaning and laundry and kids. Our excitement for what we learned that morning is gone by the time the first bowl of Cheerios hit floor.
“When I drew near, the dog glanced at me but was not distracted.
The man had a tennis ball. When he threw it into the air, the dog
would leap up, catch it, bring it back, and drop it at the man’s feet,
all without breaking stride in his endless loops around his master.
I watched from a distance and then I walked on thinking that old
dog had more sense than I had. Though just an animal, he knows
that the greatest thing in life is his time with his master.”
Can you just see the puppy? Eyes alight, tail wagging, bouncing with excitement. He is not distracted by anything outside of his master. This is how we should be as well. Our Master is always with us and we should be excited about being with Him. “Let all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; let those who love Your salvation continually say, ‘The Lord is great!” (Psalm 40:16).
As we go through our days this week, let us start our days with our Master. Let us remember that He is with us always. And let us not become distracted by the busyness of our day or let the stresses of the day weigh us down. Let’s keep our eyes on Him, let’s get excited about Jesus and continually say, “The Lord is great!”
I pray that this was a blessing to you, it is something that I am working on in my own life. Some days are definitely better than others.
