Happy Valentine's Day!!! I hope that you are all having a great day. I have had a great, but busy day so far. I wanted to make something special for the boys for breakfast this morning, which means that I have to do some special cooking. I am not a morning person, so this sometimes poses a little bit of a challenge. I am up at 5:30 so that I can wake up and have coffee and time with God before I see anyone else. It is a must! So I made the boys (the big one too) some cute heart shaped "pop tarts". They were so yummy!
I will give you the link where I found them below, but I felt that I needed to add a little bit more information than the recipe gave. For this recipe you will need a pie crust, heart shaped cookie cutter, jam or preserves, one egg, one tablespoon of water and sugar for sprinkling.
So the first thing you are going to do is roll out your pie crust and cut out as many heart shapes as you can. This was a 9" pie crust and with a 3" cookie cutter I got 15 hearts. So based on that figure out how many you want to make and buy that many pie crusts.
After the first one I found that it was MUCH easier to take a small piece of parchment paper and work on it. This made the heart much easier to move once I was done closing the edges. Ok so take one of your hearts and place it on the parchment paper. Add about 2tsp of jam to the middle and then put another heart on top. Fork the edges closed. Make sure they close up well, or your jam will leak out when you are cooking them. Then place them on a cookies sheet lined with more parchment paper.
Mix up your egg and water and brush each Tart with the mix. Then add a sprinkle of sugar. Place them in a 350 degree oven for 20-30 minutes. And...EAT, well I would let them cool a little first. ;)
Have a blessed day!
